Denia, North Costa Blanca
DENIA
Denia is north of Javea and is south of Oliva. The Montgo Mountain, said to resemble a sleeping elephant, divides Denia and Javea. Denia is situated right on the coast with 20 kilometres of Blue Flag wide beaches.
The town of Denia is quite large with much more of a real Spanish feel than some of the surrounding towns. The main street has shady plain trees, many bars, cafés, restaurants and designer shops. At night Denia buzzes with nightlife, not discos but more with hundreds of bars, live entertainment and restaurants many of which are right on the seafront.
One of Denia’s main industries was the processing of raisins. As the years have passed tourism has taken its place. It also has a huge fishing fleet making Denia a very prosperous city over the years and possesses one of the most important harbours of the area, with ferry connections to Ibiza, Mallorca and many other destinations.
Denia has a large and cosmopolitan port and marina. The northern side of Denia is famous for water sports, windsurfing and sailing as the wind comes in off the sea, crossing the wide sandy beaches. To the southern side of Denia it is rocky with spectacular coves of transparent water ideal for diving and snorkelling. A lovely town that is well worth a visit.
